> Recently I notice the influence of David Hockney on my collage/painting. More specifically, seeing his cut-up photograph collages are what in part led to me wanting to include all of the photos of my biome I had into the collage in some way.
> Part of me was also considering joining up the rose hand to the upside down biome picture, a leaf or even the toungue of the bottom frog. Upon refelction, however I realised it was better to leave the connection upto the imagination of the viewer, then there are much more options. People will be able to make connections like one would when trying to interpret the disparet parts of a poem as described by Jo Ann Callis on the Modern Arts Notes Podcast with Tyler Green (Callis 2014).
Left as it is, I also like the way it looks like someone passing a rose to the melting moth man. In many ways, I find myself rather relating to the melting moth man on hot days, as I also find my brain and/or my body melting or in a general state of confusion and confuzzlement. Viewed through this lense, the rose almost looks like a lifeline being held out to the figure - especially since it is scientifically proven that nature has a calming effect.
> In order to make the face of the moth man look extra melty, I used PVA glue to beef up and thicken the acrylic paint. PVA glue is much smoother in consistency than the old appli glues, and best of all it is also largely transparent, so it has little effect on the colour of the paint. It does actually include the word "medium" on the packaging, and in a conetext that refers to measuring, so it makes me wonder if this PVA was in some way designed to be mixed with paint. In any case, the PVA glue I was using was made by Seawhite of Brighton.
> I had this idea that I could put a small head ontop of the bird using the G-Tec fine liner; it was an idea rather inspired by the black and white drawings of Chris Riddel and the animals of One Piece. Reflecting now, I also realised I could use this as an opportunity to outline the whole bird and its feathers in black.I would need to be very carefull, but I think it would be very effective way to intergrate the photo and paint together.
> With more holiday time, I am also finding it easier to implement the teachings of the Royal Drawing School, through learning journal analysis, sketchbooking, collaging, research file annotation, and an activity-log-like to-do list. That being said, the to-do listing activity log may also just be an extension of my avid to-do list making habits, and the Research File could still do with some more improvement. Either way, I must always try my best! :P
